How to Calibrate a Salt Spreader in Five Steps
An uncalibrated spreader wastes salt and money. A simple five-step method to check your actual application rate.
Calibration tells you how much salt your spreader really puts down at each setting. It takes under an hour and pays for itself in the first storm.
The five steps
- Park on a level surface and empty the hopper.
- Load a weighed amount of salt.
- Run the spreader at a set speed and setting for one minute, catching the discharge.
- Weigh what came out and work out kilograms per minute.
- Convert to grams per square metre using your spread width and speed.
How often to recalibrate
At the start of every season, after any repair, and whenever you switch products.
