What to Do When a Freezing Rain Warning Is Issued

Freezing rain coats every surface at once and can refreeze after you treat it. The work you do before it starts makes the biggest difference.

Before the rain starts

  1. Anti-ice high-risk areas with brine or pre-wetted salt.
  2. Top up spreaders and check you have enough salt on site.
  3. Confirm crew call-outs and shift lengths.

During the event

Focus on entrances, ramps and fire routes first. Expect to re-apply: freezing rain dilutes brine quickly.

After it ends

Watch for refreeze overnight and log every visit with times and material used.
